James P. Maher was born in Litchfield, Illinois, USA. He earned a Bachelor of Science at St. Louis University in History and a Master of Arts in History at the University of Kentucky. He is retired from the US Government and the US Air Force Reserve. He indexed over half the counties for the Griffith's Valuation Microfiche Series published by All-Ireland Heritage. In addition he has published three volumes of the Index to Marriage and Deaths in the New York Herald newspaper 1835-1870. He maintains a data base of over 250,000 records of marriages and deaths from the New York Herald newspaper.
